DESCRIPTION:Would you like to learn how to nordic walk? This 3-part course will teach you all you need to know to enjoy the International Nordic Walking (INWA) technique. \nSession 1 introduces you to the nordic walking poles and their features before moving on to learn the few basic steps of the INWA 10-step technique. We will cover posture\, pole position\, arm swing and forward propulsion. \nSession 2 will take place on Wednesday 24th January at the later time of 12 noon. You do not need to book these sessions separately. The payment for Session 1 is for all three sessions. \nSession 3 takes place on Wednesday 31st January 9.30am and is free for those who have completed weeks 1 and 2. \nPoles are available to use free of charge. \nYou will need to complete a PAR-Q health questionnaire prior to taking part. SUMMARY:Thoresby Leaf Kick 5k\, 10k\, 10 mile or half marathon
DESCRIPTION:The award winning event Thoresby Leaf Kick is back for their 9th annual autumnal trail run in the beautiful grounds of Thoresby Park\, north Nottinghamshire offering distances of  5k\, 10k\, 10 mile\, half marathon for nordic walkers. \nRunning over old military roads\, cleared tracks through ancient woodland and grassed paths around the country estate. The route includes a few hills to offer a small challenge around the course in the most scenic countryside as well as the forest & past the lake. Look out for the Longhorn Cattle of Thoresby Estate\, who usually roam free in the forest\, in their restricted fields for the race. \nSTANDARD ONLINE ENTRIES CLOSE FRI 15th SEPTEMBER  – so that race numbers can be ordered \nThe 10k route is the same as well known ‘The Longhorn’ but in reverse. The 10 mile race is the 10k route with an extra 4 miles added through different parts of the ancient woodland. Half marathon is 2 laps of the 10k route with a pretty diversion on each lap to extend to distance. \nThey are also offering a 5k run / walk for all levels. The route takes you on some grass past the beautiful church at Perlethorpe\, on tarmac through the village & back onto the main field in front of Thoresby Hall. This event can be a gentle stroll with the family or a race to get your 5km PB. The 5km race is 2 loops of the course. \nNordic Walkers are very welcome. Please ensure you enter under the specific category you wish to be with. SUMMARY:The Longhorn 2023
DESCRIPTION:Our favourite ‘The Longhorn’ is back! Sunday\, April 23rd\, 2023 \nChoose 5km\, 10km or half marathon for us nordic walkers. Runners can choose additional distances of 30km\, marathon\, 50km or 50km! \nThe event is set in private areas of the magnificent Sherwood Forest and the beautiful grounds of Thoresby Park\, next to the Grade1 listed 19th Century Thoresby Hall that we all love and know well. \nThere will be walkers\, nordic walkers\, runners and canicross runners (those who run with their dogs) so the atmosphere will be buzzing with activity and adrenalin. There will be stalls with merchandise\, food and drinks. \nThe course takes us over old military roads\, cleared tracks through ancient woodland and grassed paths around the country estate. The route includes a few hills to offer a small challenge around the course in the most scenic countryside and forest. The elevation is noted on the downloadable course map. The course has very firm hard ground if dry but if we get a lot of rain then there can also be a few muddy areas to run through. \nAs Sherwood Nordic Walking we will be welcoming nordic walking groups from around the country to take part with us. We will have our own designated stand where groups can congregate and meet other nordic walkers. \nI have entered the 10k nordic walking category starting at 11am and hope some of you will choose to have a go too. \nYou can book your place here: https://www.sbrevents.co.uk/events/the-longhorn-2023 \nPlease enter your group as ‘Sherwood Nordic Walking’ and if you are doing the 10k category please note there is a choice of start times 11am or 2pm. The 2pm start will be quieter but there will still be a good atmosphere as there are lots of runners who will still be on the course. \nThe early bird discount for entry ends on 30th October. \nI will add this info to our booking page and if you choose to enter\, please let me know! We have our own 10k route that will start appearing more often on the booking calendar in the Spring so that we can get used to the distance as part of training for the event.
