SUMMARY:Fitness Adventure along the Chesterfield Canal
DESCRIPTION:This is a moderate-paced adventure and is challenging due to the pit top that we will climb\, and the distance. \nWe will meet at the Lock keeper Inn carpark off the A57 roundabout in Worksop (Sainsbury’s/McDonald’s roundabout). We will follow the Chesterfield canal through Shireoaks and to Turners Wood. \nAfter crossing the railway we will follow the fields that take us back to the canal. DESCRIPTION:Approximately 7 miles\, starting with flat easy former railway lines\, then into more wooded areas with multiple flights of steep and uneven steps to Hardwick Hall. \n\nIf you are a National Trust member\, please bring your card so that it can be scanned when we go to the Cafe at Hardwick Hall. No need to pay. \n\nRefreshments at the cafe then through parkland and back to former railway lines to return to Teversal. \nParking is free\, and is off Carnarvon Road. This 2-part course will teach you all you need to know to enjoy the International Nordic Walking (INWA) technique. \nSession 1 introduces you to the nordic walking poles and their features before moving on to learn the few basic steps of the INWA 10-step technique. We will cover posture\, pole position\, arm swing and forward propulsion. \nSession 2 will take place on Wednesday 27th November\, You do not need to book this session separately. SUMMARY:Fitness adventure at Anston Stones Woods
DESCRIPTION:Another challenging moderate-paced adventure with steep inclines and varied terrain. \nWe start this walk at Anston Parish Hall in the village of Anston. \nAnston Stones wood supports a variety of habitats\, including woodland\, the majority of which is also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)\, calcareous grassland\, scrub and wetland. The woodland is the second best example of limestone woodland in South Yorkshire. \nThe limestone grassland within the woods are also of botanical importance. There is also a Geological Trail with good examples of limestone gorges\, supporting a variety of rare plants and animals. \nDead Man’s cave is reached via the walkway to the gorge\, this cave excavated in the 1960’s revealed ancient flint tools from the ice age and animal bones from animals such reindeer and hyena. \nThis walk can be very muddy so be prepared with spare shoes and gaiters if you have them! \nIf anyone who would like lunch after the walk please let me know and a table can be reserved at The Green Bean Coffee Shop and Bistro just up the road. \nDistance: 4-5 miles \nPace: Moderate \nAscent \nLowest 233ft Highest 348ft \nTotal ascent 370ft \nNote \nThere are some steep steps. \n\nLATE CANCELLATION POLICY: Sherwood Nordic Walking has a late cancellation policy whereby we require 24 hours’ notice for cancelling a walk booking. This is to promote their January 2025 campaign RED\, which is to encourage people to be active for better mental health. If you don’t want to be part of this\, please let me know. \nLet’s enjoy a fabulous nordic walk in the RSPB’s Sherwood Forest. During this session we will appreciate our beautiful surroundings\, breathe in the pure air and immerse ourselves in nature. We will still be nordic walking at a fair pace but your Instructor will endeavour to keep the pace manageable whilst still getting a work out. \n\n\nMeeting at the RSPB visitor centre we will explore the ancient and wonderful Sherwood Forest\, home to 1\,000 ancient oak trees\, including the Major Oak. \n\n\nTo join this session you will have already completed nordic walking training. If you haven’t please get in touch\, or have a look at the training session dates at Thoresby Park. \nPace: Steady – Moderate \n\n\nParking at the RSPB visitor carpark is across the road and is free for RSPB members (just place your membership card on. your dashboard).
