DESCRIPTION:Let’s enjoy a ‘hygge’ nordic walk in the RSPB’s Sherwood Forest. This not-so-fast session will enable us to appreciate our beautiful surroundings\, breathe in the pure air and immerse ourselves in nature. We will still be nordic walking at a fair pace but your Instructor will endeavour to keep the pace manageable whilst still getting a work out. \n\n\nMeeting at the RSPB visitor centre we will explore the ancient and wonderful Sherwood Forest\, home to 1\,000 ancient oak trees\, including the Major Oak. \n\n\nTo join this session you will have already completed nordic walking training. SUMMARY:*Cancelled*Feel Good Friday at Anston Stones
DESCRIPTION:We start this walk at Anston Parish Hall in the village of Anston. \nAnston Stones wood supports a variety of habitats\, including woodland\, the majority of which is also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)\, calcareous grassland\, scrub and wetland. The woodland is the second best example of limestone woodland in South Yorkshire. \nThe limestone grassland within the woods are also of botanical importance. There is also a Geological Trail with good examples of limestone gorges\, supporting a variety of rare plants and animals. \nDead Man’s cave is reached via the walkway to the gorge\, this cave excavated in the 1960’s revealed ancient flint tools from the ice age and animal bones from animals such reindeer and hyena. \nThis walk can be very muddy so be prepared with spare shoes and gaiters if you have them! \nIf anyone who would like lunch after the walk please let me know and a table can be reserved at The Green Bean Coffee Shop and Bistro just up the road. \nDistance: 4-5 miles \nAscent \nLowest 233ft Highest 348ft \nTotal ascent 370ft \nNote \nThere are some steep steps. \n  \nLATE CANCELLATION POLICY: Sherwood Nordic Walking has a late cancellation policy whereby we require 24 hours’ notice for cancelling a walk. SUMMARY:The Longhorn 2023
DESCRIPTION:Our favourite ‘The Longhorn’ is back! Sunday\, April 23rd\, 2023 \nChoose 5km\, 10km or half marathon for us nordic walkers. Runners can choose additional distances of 30km\, marathon\, 50km or 50km! \nThe event is set in private areas of the magnificent Sherwood Forest and the beautiful grounds of Thoresby Park\, next to the Grade1 listed 19th Century Thoresby Hall that we all love and know well. \nThere will be walkers\, nordic walkers\, runners and canicross runners (those who run with their dogs) so the atmosphere will be buzzing with activity and adrenalin. There will be stalls with merchandise\, food and drinks. \nThe course takes us over old military roads\, cleared tracks through ancient woodland and grassed paths around the country estate. The route includes a few hills to offer a small challenge around the course in the most scenic countryside and forest. The elevation is noted on the downloadable course map. The course has very firm hard ground if dry but if we get a lot of rain then there can also be a few muddy areas to run through. \nAs Sherwood Nordic Walking we will be welcoming nordic walking groups from around the country to take part with us. We will have our own designated stand where groups can congregate and meet other nordic walkers. \nI have entered the 10k nordic walking category starting at 11am and hope some of you will choose to have a go too. \nYou can book your place here: https://www.sbrevents.co.uk/events/the-longhorn-2023 \nPlease enter your group as ‘Sherwood Nordic Walking’ and if you are doing the 10k category please note there is a choice of start times 11am or 2pm. The 2pm start will be quieter but there will still be a good atmosphere as there are lots of runners who will still be on the course. \nThe early bird discount for entry ends on 30th October. \nI will add this info to our booking page and if you choose to enter\, please let me know! We have our own 10k route that will start appearing more often on the booking calendar in the Spring so that we can get used to the distance as part of training for the event. DESCRIPTION:Let’s enjoy a ‘hygge’ nordic walk in the RSPB’s Sherwood Forest. This not-so-fast session will enable us to appreciate our beautiful surroundings\, breathe in the pure air and immerse ourselves in nature. We will still be nordic walking at a fair pace but your Instructor will endeavour to keep the pace manageable whilst still getting a work out. \n\n\nMeeting at the RSPB visitor centre we will explore the ancient and wonderful Sherwood Forest\, home to 1\,000 ancient oak trees\, including the Major Oak. \n\n\nTo join this session you will have already completed nordic walking training. If you haven’t please get in touch\, or have a look at the training session dates at Thoresby Park. \n\n\nThere are free carparks available in the village of Edwinstowe. DESCRIPTION:We will begin at The Dukeries (Notcutts) garden centre carpark. From the carpark we will cross over the main road and wind our way along a country lane and through open farmland until we reach the spectacular Creswell Crags.
