SUMMARY:Fitness Adventure at Anston Stones Woods
DESCRIPTION:Another challenging moderate-paced adventure with steep inclines and varied terrain. \nWe start this walk at Anston Parish Hall in the village of Anston. \nAnston Stones wood supports a variety of habitats\, including woodland\, the majority of which is also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)\, calcareous grassland\, scrub and wetland. The woodland is the second best example of limestone woodland in South Yorkshire. \nThe limestone grassland within the woods are also of botanical importance. There is also a Geological Trail with good examples of limestone gorges\, supporting a variety of rare plants and animals. \nDead Man’s cave is reached via the walkway to the gorge\, this cave excavated in the 1960’s revealed ancient flint tools from the ice age and animal bones from animals such reindeer and hyena. \nThis walk can be very muddy so be prepared with spare shoes and gaiters if you have them! \nIf anyone who would like lunch after the walk please let me know and a table can be reserved at The Green Bean Coffee Shop and Bistro just up the road. \nDistance: 4-5 miles \nPace: Moderate \nAscent \nLowest 233ft Highest 348ft \nTotal ascent 370ft \nNote \nThere are some steep steps. \n\nLATE CANCELLATION POLICY: Sherwood Nordic Walking has a late cancellation policy whereby we require 24 hours’ notice for cancelling a walk booking. DESCRIPTION:Beginning at The Dukeries (Notcutts) garden centre carpark. From the carpark we will begin by crossing over the main road. We will wind our way along a country lane and through open farmland until we reach the spectacular Creswell Crags. Another country lane leads us past some quarries before we head back towards Creswell Crags\, along the main road and back to the garden centre carpark. \nThere is some steep terrain and also a high stile to climb over. \nLunch is available at the Harley Gallery and also at the garden centre café. \nDistance: 4.6 miles \nPace: Moderate \nSpaces are limited on the Walk Leader nordic walks due to Walk Leader insurance and group management. National Trust members enter for free\, non-members entry fees are £5 per adult. \nDistance: 5-6 miles \n  \nLATE CANCELLATION POLICY: Sherwood Nordic Walking has a late cancellation policy whereby we require 24 hours’ notice for cancelling a walk booking. No refunds can be issued however it may be possible to use the credit one time on a future session.
