SUMMARY:Adventure to Anston Stones Woods
DESCRIPTION:We start this walk at Anston Parish Hall in the village of Anston. \nAnston Stones wood supports a variety of habitats\, including woodland\, the majority of which is also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)\, calcareous grassland\, scrub and wetland. The woodland is the second best example of limestone woodland in South Yorkshire. \nThe limestone grassland within the woods are also of botanical importance. There is also a Geological Trail with good examples of limestone gorges\, supporting a variety of rare plants and animals. \nDead Man’s cave is reached via the walkway to the gorge\, this cave excavated in the 1960’s revealed ancient flint tools from the ice age and animal bones from animals such reindeer and hyena. \nThis walk can be very muddy so be prepared with spare shoes and gaiters if you have them! \nIf anyone who would like lunch after the walk please let me know and a table can be reserved at The Green Bean Coffee Shop and Bistro just up the road. \nDistance: 4-5 miles \nAscent Lowest 233ft Highest 348ft Total ascent 370ft \nNote \nThere are some steep steps. \n  \nLATE CANCELLATION POLICY: Sherwood Nordic Walking has a late cancellation policy whereby we require 24 hours’ notice for cancelling a walk. This fast-track Saturday course will teach you all you need to know to enjoy the International Nordic Walking (INWA) technique. \nPart 1 introduces you to the nordic walking poles and their features before moving on to learn the first five steps of the INWA 10-step technique. We will cover posture\, pole position\, arm swing and forward propulsion. \nShort break \nPart 2 We will move onto the hill technique and foot dynamics before progressing onto cover up to step 6 of 10. \nIf you are struggling to grasp the technique after this fast-track session\, ongoing training is available at the start of each Saturday session. \n  \nFollowing on from the course you are welcome to book onto the monthly Saturday group walk\, or join us at the weekly parkrun at Clumber Park where we nordic walk the route. DESCRIPTION:Sherwood Nordic Walking are taking part in parkwalk at parkrun with our poles – want to join us?   \nRegistration is free and you can do it here. You will create an account and be issued with your unique barcode. You will need to bring this with you on the day either on your phone or as a print out. \nOur local parkrun is at Clumber Park. All parkruns take place at 9am on Saturdays. \nWhere to park: Enter Clumber Park at your usual entrance and then turn left just before the cricket pavilion to follow the track and park on the overflow field.\nWhere to meet: From the carpark walk alongside the walled garden towards Central Bark\nWhat time: Let’s meet at Central Bark at 8.45am and we can warm up together\nWhat next: The organisers gather newbies around and explain how it works just before the event begins\nAnd we are off: The run/walk starts at 9am ish\nHow far: The course is 2 laps of 1.5 miles\, so yes\, we will be lapped by the runners. \nAs nordic walkers we are very welcome to take part. We will start at the back of the runners and be mindful of those around us. As the course is two laps we will be lapped by the runners\, so when this happens we must ensure that we stick to the right side of the path in order for them to pass us safely. This is particularly important as we approach the finish section. \nAt the end of the two laps\, we will enter a finish ‘funnel’ where we will need to show our barcode for it to be scanned. Our results (time\, speed\, comparison with others our age and sex) will be available online. \nLet me know if you need further explanation and if you’d like to join us.
