Friday Adventure at Anston Stones Woods

We start this walk at Anston Parish Hall in the village of Anston.

Anston Stones wood supports a variety of habitats, including woodland, the majority of which is also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), calcareous grassland, scrub and wetland. The woodland is the second best example of limestone woodland in South Yorkshire.

The limestone grassland within the woods are also of botanical importance. There is also a Geological Trail with good examples of limestone gorges, supporting a variety of rare plants and animals.

Dead Man’s cave is reached via the walkway to the gorge, this cave excavated in the 1960’s revealed ancient flint tools from the ice age and animal bones from animals such reindeer and hyena.

This walk can be very muddy so be prepared with spare shoes and gaiters if you have them!

If anyone who would like lunch after the walk please let me know and a table can be reserved at The Green Bean Coffee Shop and Bistro just up the road.

There are some steep steps.

 

LATE CANCELLATION POLICY: Sherwood Nordic Walking has a late cancellation policy whereby we require 24 hours’ notice for cancelling a walk. A credit voucher will be issued up until this time but will be dependent on the cancelling client making contact with Tracy before cancelling.
